EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING
Experiential learning is the new education methodology, which involves students in band practice and performance. It is the formation of students learning different instruments, which leads to the establishment of bands/ensembles.
How can students benefit from experiential learning?
Experiential learning can help students achieve many practical, effective skills, such as:
- Collaborative skill: students can learn the skills of working in team, and share the learning result with their band mates.

- Creative thinking: students are encouraged to be original and develop their own performing styles.

- Confidence in performing: the practices will help students be prepared to perform for an audience. Through various performances, students will become more confident, and further improve their skills.

- Make use of the knowledge: through the authentic practice, students can also utilize the music theory, sight-reading,…learned in class, to create the synergy of knowledge and performing skills.

- Organizational skills: the practices and performances of students will be guided by teachers, with specific songs arrangement. Therefore, students are required to work under an organized system.

How has MPU implemented this methodology in the curriculum?
Experiential learning is a substantial part of MPU’s curriculum. This is a distinctive attribute of MPU that no other music school in HCMC offers. The implementation of experiential learning in MPU’s curriculum has proven to be an effective learning methodology, and students also benefit from the enjoyable collaboration when playing in bands. It is organized systematically under the instruction MPU’s proficient board of faculty. In addition, MPU offers facilities such as sound system, professional equipments to enhance the efficiency of experiential learning.
